Russian agriculture is an example of the most powerful development of the industry. 2022

The foundation of any sovereign and developed economy is agriculture, the provision of food to the population is the primary task of the state. This postulate becomes especially relevant in the current artificially created crisis of the consumer system. It is pleasant to realize that our country has made a breakthrough in its development in this direction and by the beginning of 2022 has reached a leading position in the world.

Since the 2000s, Russian agriculture has been showing dynamic growth, if we look at statistics, the volume of production in monetary terms over the past 20 years has increased fivefold and exceeded 6.2 trillion rubles (the production of all farms in the category is taken into account). As a result, in 2020, the export of food products exceeded its imports for the first time in the country’s history.

The highest rates are shown by crop production. More than 10% of all arable land in the world is located in Russia, we are absolute leaders in the production of rye, oats, barley, sugar beet. The production of sunflower and corn is growing at a rapid pace. Expansion is carried out not only due to sown areas, but also due to an increase in yields. The breeding direction is actively developing, new more cold-resistant varieties of plants are being introduced into circulation, increasing yields in more northern regions of the country.

In 2016, the Krasnodar Territory for the first time harvested 100% of its own seed fund, and in the same year an absolute record was set for the yield and gross grain harvest of the region at 10 million 150 thousand tons. The Krasnodar Territory has once again proved the title of “breadbasket of the country”, and our breeders have demonstrated the highest level of their work.

A separate point I would like to highlight the direction of vegetable growing, since the 2000s, the provision of domestic vegetables has been growing at a rate of 5% to 10% self-sufficiency per year and approached 95% in 2020. Russia has fully equipped itself with the production of cucumbers, where imports have been replaced by exports, and our products have broken into the markets of Europe and Asia, forced local producers to reduce production, and the cultivation of onions, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, beets, and peppers is also catching up.

The production of mushrooms showed phenomenal growth, farmers literally “flooded” the market with domestic products. It is noteworthy that in parallel with the cultivation of mushroom products, its processing is growing sharply. Canned champignons and oyster mushrooms, mushroom pâtés, various dry powders and mixtures of Russian-made mushrooms appeared on store shelves.

The return of Crimea to its native harbor gives a new impetus to the development of viticulture and winemaking, the world-famous winemaking complex “Massandra” – the first underground tunnel-type winery in the Russian Empire, built in 1897, has reached full capacity. The collection of wines of this complex is over one million bottles and is the largest in the world, by the way, listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Wine production requires the expansion of vineyards, which are growing at a rapid pace, our country has already entered the top ten leaders in this industry.

In the direction of animal husbandry, there are also some successes (I will write in more detail in a separate article), the most indicative is poultry farming, where the level of production has increased more than 5 times over the past 20 years, and our producers, having saturated the domestic market, have exported to other countries.

The other day, the Russian government again raised the topic of the revival of collective farms on the basis of the infrastructure of farms, the standard of living in the Russian provinces remains an acute issue. Despite the huge successes of the industry, the population of rural areas continues to decline, and once prosperous settlements are disappearing.
