Who really built the Great Wall of China and why?
The Great Wall of China was built by the Chinese. That is the truth. Since the XVII century, the wall began to be considered the hallmark of the country. But recently, doubts have begun to arise that the world’s largest structure was built by the inhabitants of the Celestial Empire. Attached to this are theories as to what the true purpose of the wall was.
The official version of the construction of millennia
The construction began in the III century BC (Qin dynasty), as a means of protection from northern nomads. The idea belonged to the “collector of Chinese lands” Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi. The Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) enlarged the wall and built a line of watchtowers. The construction was continued by the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). On the other hand, the Manchu Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), which replaced it, stopped the process, only maintaining a small part near Beijing – the “gateway to the capital”.

But the wall did not save the empire from its enemies. For nomadic tribes, it did not become an obstacle. They easily overcame obstacles and engaged in robbery. There is a version that the guards themselves let the enemies through the wall for bribes. This is where the roots of corruption come from.
In 1984, on the initiative of Deng Xiaoping, the reconstruction of the wall began. Some areas have been completely rebuilt. At the same time, curious facts were revealed: the stone blocks were glued together with a mixture of rice porridge and lime, and the loopholes were directed towards China. Since this moment caused unpleasant thoughts among the authorities, they decided to hush it up and began to change the direction of the loopholes during the restoration.
But the most interesting thing turned out to be that the Great Wall is not alone, and the North of China is full of walls that are found in Mongolia and Russia.
The walls were built by China’s northern neighbors
In recent decades, the version of the construction of the Great Wall of China by the inhabitants of the mysterious state of Tartary has been actively developing. Artifacts prove that people similar to the Slavs lived there, designated in Chinese manuscripts as white gods. The findings showed that Tartary was a highly developed state and could have built such a massive fortification.

On the ancient vases there were symbols reminiscent of the letters of the Old Russian alphabet. Therefore, there was a version that the Russians could live in that region. But no reliable information has been found about when and why they left these lands.
Some historians who study the records claim that there was a long war between Tartary and China, which finally ended in a peace treaty. But, apparently, the inhabitants of Tartary did not really trust their neighbors and decided to fence themselves off from them with a wall.
Botanical version
The well-known botanist A. Galanin voiced his version of the reason for the construction of the wall. The structure was created as a protection against sandstorms coming from the Ala-Shan and Ordos deserts. The scientist bases his conclusions on a map made by the Russian traveler P. Kozlov at the beginning of the twentieth century. Several parallel walls were found there. Galanin explains this strangeness in the following way: when one wall went into the sand, another one was built.
Otherworldly Forces

The Great Wall of China on the map of China
Of course, this is the most exotic version. But this is the opinion of people living today, and for the ancient Chinese it was normal to know about the existence of certain entities with evil intentions. But one of the names of the wall is translated as “a place where 10 thousand spirits live.”
If you look at the drone footage, you will see that the wall goes in a winding “path” even on flat areas. This can be explained by the fact that the people of that time believed that otherworldly beings could move in a straight line and would not be able to overcome the obstacles created. Perhaps the Great Wall of China was created to block the way of beings from another world?
Of course, these are not all the versions that exist today and we can hope that the truth is somewhere nearby and will be found someday.
