Descendants of the richest princes Yusupovs. How Did Their Fate Turn Out?
Many people know about the Yusupov family. They were incredibly influential not only in Russia, but also in the European part of the world. Then revolutionary events toppled them from their pedestals. Now this family belonged to the middle class. But what was the fate of his descendants?
The family nest had Nogai roots. In the period from about the 16th to the 17th century, Khan Yusuf Mirzo exiled his sons to the Moscow possessions, who eventually settled and put down roots there. This is how the Yusupov family appeared. Its representatives were close to the royal families, held high positions and were able to amass a huge fortune.
This family had one peculiarity. The fact is that the Yusupovs have always had problems with heirs, because there has always been only one boy. Many thought it was a curse, however, it was just a genetic abnormality that affected the male line and did not affect the female line. But there was a plus in this feature. Money was not divided and therefore was always concentrated in the hands of one heir. Perhaps, thanks to this Yusupov family, they managed to accumulate such a fortune.

Boris Yusupov
The dynasty was interrupted in 1891, when Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov died. His daughter Tatiana died of typhus at the age of 22, and his son Boris was less than two months old when he died. So only one heiress remained – Zinaida. Many suitors came to bow to her. This is understandable, because all the riches went to her. But she chose the Earl of Elston, named Felix Sumarokov. He took his wife’s surname, which was very unusual for those times. They lived very happily.

It was in this marriage that one of Rasputin’s assassins was born. There were four boys in total. Two died as infants, one from a duel, and the fourth, Felix, married the niece of Emperor Nicholas II. They had no sons, but had a daughter, Irina, who married Count Sheremetyev in 1938.

Felix and Irina Yusupov
Despite the fact that after the revolution all the money remained with the new government, Irina and her husband were able to take away some jewelry. With them, they bought a business and lived quite well. However, no boys were born to them. Irina gave birth to a daughter, Tatiana, who gave birth to girls named Marilia and Jasmine-Xenia. Now they live in Greece and know who their distant ancestors are.
