Lebensborn Program. A Story of Boundless Cruelty

There is no end to the atrocities committed by the Nazis during their short but bloody rule. Among the endless number of creepy projects that make your blood run cold in your veins is the Lebensborn program, which translates to “The Source of Life.” It was conceived by Hitler at the instigation of Heinrich Himmler and was presented to the masses as a real necessity and a great honor for the participants.
According to the official version, the Führer dreamed of breeding a whole race of rulers of the world, who could only be “real Aryans.” Their parents were to be exclusively blue-eyed blondes. At the same time, the father was obliged to be an SS man. Being married, or even in a relationship, was not required to produce a “proper” member of the future society. It was considered sufficient simply to conceive a child, carry it to term and give it to it for upbringing. If desired, a woman could continue to perform her maternal duties and even receive good money for it. Of course, this is provided that all the points of the agreement prescribed by the Nazis were observed.

As usual, a practical problem remained in the shadow of theory. Even then, there was a serious decline in the birth rate in Germany. Women were increasingly having abortions. More than six hundred thousand of them could be held per year. Concerned about the survival of the nation and understanding the country’s need for a large number of soldiers in the future, Hitler could not let history take its course and took matters into his own hands with his usual persistence.
Yes, many ladies have changed their minds about illegitimate children. They willingly gave birth to babies to the Fuehrer and gave them away. It became an honor to have an affair with an SS man. There were no commitments. But this was not enough. Hitler was already planning an imminent bloodbath with the USSR, and therefore made sure that his electorate increased as quickly as possible. Ready-made boys and girls from countries that had already been brought to their knees were suitable for this. They were caught literally on the streets, taken away from their parents, who were most often simply killed, and brought to special centers, where they were examined in detail. Those who did not fit were killed in the gas chambers. There is a well-known case when about one and a half hundred children were brought to one of the Czech camps, and only thirteen of them were left alive.

The chosen ones received new families, where they were raised, and sometimes even loved. Some of the surviving boys, only when they became adults, learned the truth. Of course, it came as a shock. But there were those who agreed to continue living in families where they were treated well. However, there are many more examples of unpleasant, dramatic and tragic.
In a number of countries, mainly Scandinavian, women were offered the same conditions as German women. Without resistance, they entered into relations with the SS and had offspring from them. This was especially common in Norway. In the future, after the fall of the Nazi regime, mothers paid a heavy price for their mistakes. And with him, innocent children were anathema. They were insulted, ridiculed, beaten, excluded from public life, and even offered to be killed or sterilized. Thousands of descendants of Hitler’s regime were smuggled to Australia, away from view.
The atrocities of the fascists defy comprehension. There is no justification for the deaths of so many boys and girls who have fallen victim to the Lebensborn programme. But to know the horror of which the sick imagination of tyrants is capable, it is necessary to pass on this knowledge to the next generations and to save humanity from steps leading to the abyss.
Artificial selection in the Nazi way. Eugenics in action. Yes, man is imperfect, and so is humanity as a whole, and it would be nice to improve him. But not by such means. And which ones?
